Country Party
Political party
The Country Party was created by the Farmers and Settlers Association in September 1917 and represented the association’s interests in parliament and political activity. The party endorsed seven candidates in the 1918 election, two were elected. Their representatives were usually labelled as Farmers and Settlers’ Association representatives but also referred to as Country Party, Independent Country Party or independent members. The Country Party name was formally assumed after the 1921 election. The party merged with the Liberal Federation in 1932 to create the Liberal and Country League.
