Adelaide Homosexual Alliance 1977-79

The Adelaide Homosexual Alliance was formed in 1977, two years after male homosexuality was decriminalised in South Australia. AHA published the journal Gay Changes from 1977 to 1979, growing from a monthly magazine to a quarterly journal. In 1978, the AHA played a key role in negotiations with the South Australian Police over police violence towards, and the entrapment of, homosexuals. The AHA also worked with Premier Don Dunstan to ensure the destruction of records of individuals previously suspected of homosexuality, leading ultimately to the sacking of Police Commissioner Harold Salisbury for having maintained the files.
