Penny Wong was born in Malaysia. As an eight year old she moved to Australia with her family and settled in Adelaide. Wong graduated in Law and Arts from the University of Adelaide and in 2001 was elected to the Australian Senate. In 2013 she was appointed Leader of the Government in the Senate and after the change of Government she was appointed the leader of the opposition in the Senate. She is the first woman to hold both these roles. She is currently the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and a member of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security.
