Steele Hall
36th Premier of South Australia
Raymond Steele Hall was born in Balaklava, South Australia, in 1928. Hall is the only Australian to serve as premier of a state as well as the member of three legislatures. His parliamentary career surpassed thirty-three years. For over twenty of those years he sat on opposition or cross-benches. In 1968 he became the youngest South Australian Premier. His Liberal and Country League government pursued electoral reform, social welfare and abortion law reform.
